Two little birds are hatching from their shells.

"Here's a baby birdie.
He's hatching from his shell.
Out comes his head
and then comes his tail.
Now his legs he stretches.
His wings he gives a flap.
Then he flies and flies and flies.
Now what do you think of that?
Down Down Down Down Down Down Down Down"

Jacob is the bird on the right, in case you couldn't tell!

Questa e casa Balek!

Translation: This is the Balek house!

Almost everyday I speak this phrase to the myriad of callers seeking to make an appointment with some particular doctor. Apparently, our phone company gave us a number that used to belong to a medical office who perhaps ... didn't tell their clientele that their number has changed.

Sometimes the callers speak English or somehow understand my broken Italian, apologize, and say good-bye. Other times, they persistently call again...and again and then out of desparation, ask me if I know the medical office's new phone number, which, of course, I don't.

On a positive note, we do indeed have a working telephone line after a mere 3 weeks. We also now have Internet access after an additional mere 3 weeks. I'm told by other expatriates that we are very fortunate because it is common for expatriates to wait even 6 months for a phone line. I wonder if that is mostly due to a language barrier. That was one cause for delay in our case.

Despite the many and various obstacles that we have encountered while settling in here, we are adjusting well, overall. Now that I am finally and happily connected to the Internet, I can begin sharing our adventures in Italy.
